Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Facilities Manager ensures that school facilities, grounds, and equipment are well maintained, safe, and fully operational to support an effective learning environment for all students, staff, families, and visitors. The Facilities Manager oversees the work of in-house facilities staff and outside contractors, manages facility audits and inspections, maintains chemical and maintenance logs, coordinates supply orders, and supports after-school and community event setup. The Facilities Manager adheres to all NOCA policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies.
Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance
- Ensure that the facility is fully operational with all utilities functioning properly.
- Plan and oversee maintenance and operations personnel assigned to the building, including renovations, remodeling, additions, and infrastructure projects.
- Inspect school buildings and grounds to ensure proper safety, cleaning, and sanitization standards are maintained.
- Maintain and coordinate a work order/ticketing system for repair requests; contact vendors as necessary and inspect completed work to ensure standards are met.
- Annually review heating, electric/gas, and water usage and advise administration on proposals for cost savings.
- Maintain the inventory of school-owned tools, equipment, hardware, materials, and supplies.
- Submit orders for all custodial and maintenance supplies and materials; manage delivery and warehousing.
Grounds & Exteriors
- Plan, assign, and manage groundskeeping work, including maintenance and care of trees, shrubs, lawns, athletic fields, and snow removal.
- Oversee all grounds cleaning and summer maintenance of the school campus.
Safety & Compliance
- Oversee installation and maintenance of all fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, radon detectors, door barriers, and security camera infrastructure.
- Maintain all safety and code requirements per federal, state, and NOCA Board guidelines.
- Advise and respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis as needed; respond to all emergency callbacks during off-duty hours.
Coordination & Support
- Oversee and manage contracted cleaning and custodial services, ensuring scope of work and quality standards are met.
- Coordinate with the Athletic Director on field, gym, and facility maintenance and event setup for athletics programming.
- Support building improvement and beautification initiatives in coordination with school leadership.
- Upon approval of the Executive Director, coordinate the use of school facilities with staff and community groups; communicate with users about specific needs and assist the public as necessary.
- Assist with school operations as assigned.
Qualifications
- Passion for the mission of Northwest Ohio Classical Academy.
- Experience or working knowledge of building trade skills, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, small/large engine repair and maintenance, and fundamentals of construction.
- Training in the proper care and storage of chemicals.
- Training in OSHA rules and regulations.
- Ability to operate machinery and power-driven equipment.
- Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace; comfort learning and using digital work order systems and other operational software.
- Excellent organizational skills with an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and school operations.
- Commitment to model moral character in line with the school’s core virtues and the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
- Must pass all required background checks.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout the school building and grounds.
- Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment.
- Occasional requirement to work at heights.
- Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 60 lbs.
- Perform general labor inside and outside, including groundskeeping, landscaping, handling materials and supplies, moving equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, and mowing.

About NOCA:
NOCA is Ohio’s first state-chartered, publicly-funded, independently-governed, tuition-free, classical school. It is curriculum school of the Barney Charter School Initiative of Hillsdale College, a network of classical charter schools united by curriculum and purpose. NOCA opened its doors in 2019, with 210 students in grades K-8, and has seen strong and steady growth. It now serves grades K-12 to over 600 students.
