Art Teacher

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Art Teacher who is committed to the mission of classical education and dedicated to cultivating in students an appreciation for truth, goodness, and beauty through the visual arts. The ideal candidate will provide students with a rich foundation in both art history and studio practice while fostering creativity, discipline, craftsmanship, and wonder.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver instruction aligned with the classical education model and the school’s mission.
  • Teach art history and studio practice within a content-rich, chronological curriculum grounded in classical and traditional Western art.
  • Provide students with a foundation in drawing, painting, and design techniques while cultivating an appreciation for beauty, craftsmanship, and artistic discipline.
  • Create a classroom environment rooted in attentiveness, order, and respect, where students can focus and thrive.
  • Encourage intellectual curiosity and elevate students’ tastes by exposing them to great works of art across time.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through a combination of formative and summative methods.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student performance, expectations, and classroom activities.
  • Participate in school events, art exhibitions, professional development, and community engagement activities.
  • Uphold and model the school’s mission, virtues, and high behavioral standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferred).
  • Previous experience in classical education is preferred, but not required.
  • Commitment to model moral character in line with the school’s core virtues and the pursuit of the Good, True, and Beautiful.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to and experience in engaging the interest and wonder of school-age children.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continued personal and professional growth, and a commitment to model wonder, curiosity, and a passion for lifelong learning.
  • Must clear a current background check through the BCI/FBI.

NOCA is Ohio’s first state-chartered, publicly-funded, independently-governed, tuition-free, classical school. It is curriculum school of the Barney Charter School Initiative of Hillsdale College, a network of classical charter schools united by curriculum and purpose. NOCA opened its doors in 2019, with 210 students in grades K-8, and has seen strong and steady growth. It now serves grades K-12 to over 600 students.
