Northwest Ohio Classical Academy (NOCA), a tuition-free classical charter school in Toledo, Ohio, invites applications for a passionate and intellectually serious Upper School History & Philosophy Teacher to join our faculty for the 2025–2026 school year.
NOCA provides a classical liberal arts education rooted in the Western tradition. We seek educators who embrace the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness and who are eager to form students in both intellect and character.
Responsibilities
- Teach a range of history and philosophy courses to students in grades 7–12, including but not limited to Ancient History, Modern European or American History, Civics, and Introduction to Philosophy or Logic
- Foster close reading of primary sources including classical texts, founding documents, and great works of political thought
- Lead thoughtful, text-based discussions that cultivate virtue, critical thinking, and civic understanding
- Model the habits of a free and responsible citizen through instruction and example
- Collaborate with other humanities faculty to ensure curricular coherence and alignment with NOCA’s classical mission
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in history, philosophy, political science, or a closely related discipline; advanced degree preferred
- Demonstrated love of learning and a strong grounding in Western intellectual history
- Prior teaching experience preferred, especially in a classical or liberal arts setting
- Familiarity with and commitment to the principles of classical education
- Ohio teaching license or willingness to pursue licensure

About Northwest Ohio Classical Academy
NOCA is Ohio’s first state-chartered, publicly-funded, independently-governed, tuition-free, classical school. It is curriculum school of the Barney Charter School Initiative of Hillsdale College, a network of classical charter schools united by curriculum and purpose. NOCA opened its doors in 2019, with 210 students in grades K-8, and has seen strong and steady growth. It now serves grades K-12 to over 600 students.
