Northwest Ohio Classical Academy (NOCA) seeks a full-time General Music Teacher/Choral Assistant/Accompanist. Applicant should be prepared to guide students to enjoy, appreciate, and interpret music in their daily life. Applicant should be comfortable exposing students to various genres of beautiful music, developing their knowledge and ability in performance and teaching music theory. In addition to demonstrating high moral character and mastery of the subjects they teach, applicant will work collaboratively to create a working and learning environment for all students that is safe, secure, and respectful. This position requires a background in general music, voice, and piano. NOCA teachers should understand their content area, the classical education model, and prioritize wonder and joy in the creation and delivery of all their lessons. Students are not the passive recipients of knowledge, but active participants in the discussion. This disciplined and orderly environment facilitates attention, focus, and engagement. The teacher is responsible for leading the class and encouraging students to inquire, discover, and reflect. The teacher will model skills of a lifelong learner as they initiate continuing education and collaboration with the NOCA’s greater educational team.
Responsibilities
- Guide students in grades 1-4 to enjoy, appreciate, and perform music through a variety of activities and experiences, including singing, moving to music, playing classroom instruments, and listening. Topics include, but not limited to music theory, music history, instrument identification, creativity, aural skills, musical expression, etc.
- Assist Choral Director in daily choir rehearsal and be prepared to lead sectionals
- Accompany school choirs in daily rehearsal and at concerts
- Accompany vocal and instrumental students for Solo and Ensemble Contest
- Model the mission, philosophy, and virtues of the school: courage; moderation; justice; responsibility; friendship; prudence; and wisdom.
- Develop the intellect and character of every student
- Promote and participate in a liberal arts and civic education.
- Provide a safe and joyous environment for learning.
- Adhere to all NOCA policies
- Guide students to enjoy, appreciate, and interpret music
- Encourage and assist students to acquire skills in music through a series of sequential experiences
- Encourage and promote the coordination of music with other subject areas in the curriculum
- Determine the materials to be used in instruction and the best methods for their presentation
- Plan, prepare, and present annual programs for the school
- Evaluate student performance in music
- Inventory, organize, order, and care for music materials and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Previous experience in classical education is preferred, but not required
- Vocal and piano skills
- Orff, Dalcroze, Kodaly experience preferred, but not required
- Recorder experience preferred, but not required
- Commitment to model moral character in line with the school’s core virtues and the pursuit of the Good, True, and Beautiful
- Possess exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to and experience in engaging the interest and wonder of school-age children
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member
- Demonstrates a commitment to continued personal and professional growth, and a commitment to model wonder, curiosity, and a passion for lifelong learning
