Giving
NOCA is a tuition-free, state-funded public charter school. Because we are a community school, we receive no local levy or property-tax funding — none of the local funding that traditional district schools rely on. Every year, the gap between what the state provides and what it takes to run a serious classical K–12 school is closed by the people who believe in what NOCA does.
The plain math
State per-pupil funding covers a significant portion of what it costs to run NOCA, and we are grateful for it. Ohio has been a leader in funding school-choice families, and that support is real. But state funding does not cover the full distance — especially for the Upper School, for athletics, for the arts, and for the small class sizes that make classical education possible.
Traditional district schools close that gap with local property-tax levies. NOCA cannot. We close it, every year, with donations from the community we serve. Most of our annual giving comes from NOCA families themselves, from alumni families, and from neighbors who have never had a child at the school but think what we're doing matters for Toledo.
Where your gift goes
NOCA's annual fund underwrites day-to-day operations — teachers, books, athletics, the arts. Alongside it, the NOCA Foundation is running four capital campaigns that will shape the school for the next generation. Every dollar flows through the Foundation (EIN 85-3451845) and is tax-deductible.

Roof Replacement
Every great institution needs a solid roof over its head — literally. NOCA's roof is aging, and replacing it is not a glamorous project. There will be no ribbon cutting, but teachers will work without buckets in the hallway, and the building we worked so hard to make our own will be protected for decades to come. Some investments are invisible — and absolutely essential.

A classical education demands full presence — minds engaged, attention sustained, hearts ready to learn. But when classrooms are too hot in September, too cold in January, and the hum of an aging system competes with the voice of a teacher, even the best lesson struggles to land. Several years ago, NOCA made a bold decision — we purchased our building and built an Upper School wing to secure a permanent home for classical education in Northwest Ohio. That investment required a $10.5 million bond. Every dollar we carry in debt can't go toward teachers, curriculum, or students. Help us finish what we started.

The Liberty Gala
Each spring, the NOCA Foundation hosts the Liberty Gala — an evening of dinner, invited speakers, student performers, and a live auction to raise a meaningful share of the year's giving. It is also, frankly, a good night out with good neighbors.
