Facilities Manager

Under the general direction of the Business Manager, the Facilities Manager will ensure that the school facilities, grounds, and equipment are well maintained and up to code to guarantee the safety of all students, staff, parents, and visitors. The Facilities Manager shall manage and maintain the facilities in order to support an effective learning environment. The Facilities Manager will oversee the work of outside contractors as well as manage facility audits/inspections, chemicals and logs, ground supply orders, and afterschool event setup. The Facilities Manager will adhere to all NOCA policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that the facility is fully operational with all utilities functioning properly;
  • Plan and oversee maintenance and operations personnel assigned to the building (to include renovations of rooms, remodeling, additions, firewalls, etc.);
  • Inspect school buildings and grounds to assure that proper safety, cleaning and sanitization standards are maintained;
  • Arrange a ticketing system and necessary repair work by vendors and maintenance personnel; contact vendors as necessary, inspect and review work performed to assure standards are met;
  • Plan, assign, and manage the work of the grounds keeping personnel engaging in maintenance and care of trees, shrubs, lawns, athletic fields and snow removal;
  • Oversee all grounds cleaning and summer maintenance of school campus;
  • Submit for ordering all custodial supplies and materials needed to maintain school (direct delivery and warehousing of all school supplies);
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of all fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, radon detectors, door barriers, etc.;
  • Occasional requirement to work in high places;
  • Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 60 lbs.;
  • Annually review heating, electric/gas, and water usage and advise on proposals for money savings;
  • Advise and/or respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis as needed;
  • Attend Facilities Committee meetings and site meetings as necessary;
  • Upon approval of the Headmaster will coordinate the use of school facilities with staff and community groups; communicate with users about specific needs, and assist the
    public as necessary; and
  • Respond to all emergency call-backs during off-duty hours

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience or knowledge of all building trade skills (i.e. plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, small/large engine repair and maintenance, and fundamentals of construction).
  • Training in the proper care and stage of chemicals.
  • Ability to operate machinery.
  • Training in OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Have experience and understanding of overseeing school operations and reporting.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of tools, machines, mechanical and electrical equipment, building construction, and furniture.
  • Perform general labor inside and outside the physical plant including grounds keeping, landscaping, handling materials and supplies, moving equipment, operating powerdriver equipment, truck driving, snow plowing, mowing, etc.
  • Assist with school operations as assigned.
  • Maintain all safety and code requirements of the federal, state, and NOCA Board guidelines.
  • Maintain the inventory of school-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies.
  • Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building and grounds.
  • Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment.
  • Proficient in computer technology.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students and staff in a school environment and community.

  • Must pass necessary background checks

 

About Northwest Ohio Classical Academy:

NOCA is Ohio’s first state-chartered, publicly-funded, independently-governed, tuition-free, classical school. It is a curriculum school of the Barney Charter School Initiative of Hillsdale College, a network of classical charter schools united by curriculum and purpose. NOCA opened its doors in 2019, with 210 students in grades K-8, and has seen strong and steady growth. It now offers grades K-11, will add one additional grade each year through 12, and currently has approximately 480 students.
